I was watching Hannibal earlier in the week and I noticed Will's drawing of a clock was very similar to one of the books I had laying about my room. This book, "Vision and Art: The Biology of Seeing," is written by the neurophysiologist, Margaret Livingston and like the title suggests, discusses the science of how people see. It is a fascinating book, written similarly to a textbook, but only in that there is expressed desire to teach the reader and despite a lot of technical terms, it is a surprisingly easy and fun read! The book touches on light, colour, visual and spacial processing, motion and more. All those questions about "do we really all see the same colours, is your red my red?" or "how exactly do visual pathways of the brain affect what we see?"
ANYWAY, just thought I'd share with you a little deeper look into what was going on in Will's head. Basically we have two perception systems in our brain, the Where system and the What system. The Where system is older, we share a lot of the characteristics with primates and it is essential in distinguishing motion, depth, spatial organization, and figure/foreground separation. The What system is newer, and is used in objection recognition facial recognition (HEY GUESS WHOSE WHAT SYSTEM WAS BEING MESSED UP IN THE SHOW, NUDGE), and colour perception. While the systems are physically integrated, they differ in how they extract information, what information they extract, and how they process light! When these systems are damaged, they can result in unique sorts of blindness. In Hannibal, we got to observe Will drawing with a damaged Where system due to inflammation caused by the autoimmune disease, encephalitis (fun fact, this is often seen in patients with viral meningitis!).
So long story short THIS BOOK WAS COOL AND EXPLAINED THINGS TO ME THAT I DIDN'T KNOW I WOULD NEED IN THE FUTURE OF TELEVISION. If you are interested in how science, art, and seeing all blends together, I would suggest picking it up (it's only 19usd on amazon.com).

China's Incredible Colored Rice Terraces
Incredible panoramic views of colored rice terraces in the mountainous Yuanyang region in China, one of the world's largest rice-producing areas. The colors of the mirrored landscape are constantly changing due to the time of day and seasonal changes. These terraces were built by hand by the Hani people about 1,300 years ago.
The terraces are dug into the steep slopes of the mountains between 1,000 and 2,000 meters above sea level. Rice is planted once a year in April and harvested in September, when the terraces are flooded to prepare them for the next crop. When the terraces are flooded, the water reflects stunning colors from the sunlight.
Despite the breathtaking beauty of its landscape, the Yuanyang region remains untouched by mass tourism. Its remote, mountainous location, bad roads and lack of a nearby airport deter all but the most determined tourists and photographers.

So after seeing Beauty and the Beast 3D, can I just take a moment to discuss the un-tapped potential of post-movie ending shenanigans.
Prince Adam will be the most adorable obnoxious prince ever (also he is so handsome and dreamy UNPOPULAR OPINION WHATEVER I was swooning, do you not see that barrel chest and aquiline nose and OMG TOOTHY GRIN uuuuugh hot hot hot). I mean, he spent his developing life as a chimera beast. He had a hearty roar! HIS TEMPER WAS TERRIBLE. His eating habits took effort! He could jump banisters! Shit just doesn't go away when he's human, god damn. For the most part he'll be doing his best to act like a proper gentleman but when he's excited he'll run up the stairs on all fours and when he's in a mood (which let's be honest will be 99.99999% of the time I mean we all saw the same movie right) he'll have horrible posture and pouting and growling with great gusto. Even if he technically can't do that anymore.
Also whoever is of the opinion that Belle gave up her life to be married (i.e. her dreams of travel, adventure, and seeing more!!!) can just go jump off something humongous because, uh, hello she married a prince who gave her an entire library wing as a starter. This is the woman that saved his life and that he adores beyond belief!!! THEY WILL GO TRAVELLING EVERYWHERE. omg can you imagine the tourism antics. They visit Italy! Belle is beside herself at the BEAUTY EVERYWHERE OMG and Adam meanwhile is trying not to get into the third fight that day.
Also did you see how they kissed
THEY ARE ALL OVER EACH OTHER LOOK AT HOW THEY HAVE BEEN WANTING TO LUST OVER EACH OTHER THIS ENTIRE MOVIE but all the furry crap made it all awkward and now they're like, HOT DAMN LET'S DO THIS ALL THE TIME.
They will be loud as hell and Chip will be asking very awkward questions as to why they are always fighting in their room.
